DeVry Passport2College 2010

Are you a high school junior or senior eager to get a head start on your business and technology college credits? If yes, then DeVry University Federal Way has the perfect program for you, Passport2College. This program was designed exclusively for students interested in earning college credits for coursework in business and technology without having to pay tuition. Students in the class of 2010 or 2011 with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher are eligible to apply.

Tuition and fees are waived for those selected to participate; however, the purchase of books and course materials will be required.

Courses offered:

BUSN 115 - Introduction to Business and Technology - 3 Credit Hours
This course introduces business and the environments in which businesses operate. Students examine the roles of major functional areas of business and interrelationships among them. Organizational theories and techniques are examined, and economic, cultural, political and technological factors affecting business organizations are evaluated. Create your own business plan.

WGD 201 - Visual Design Fundamentals - 3 Credit Hours
In this course students examine the foundation of visual design. Topics include the design process; elements of design, such as line, color, form, function and space; and combining elements for enhanced visual projects and by applying concepts using appropriate software.

GSP 110 - Introduction to Game and Simulation Development - 3 Credit Hours
This course provides a broad overview of the game industry, and the game development and design process. Topics include game terminology, history of games, genre analysis, platform comparisons, psychological concepts of interactivity, content creation, and game plying and exploration.

ECET 100 - Introduction to Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology - 4 Credit Hours
This course introduces basic concepts of the electronics and computer engineering technology field, including electronic components, introductory circuit analysis, digital logic, computer usage and design of microcontroller-based electronic systems and emphasizes hardware and software development.

CIS 115 Logic and Design - 3 Credit Hours
This course introduces basics of programming logic, as well as algorithim design and development, including constants, variables, expressions, arrays, files and control structures for sequential, iterative and decision processing. Students learn to design and document program specifications using tools such as flowcharts, structure charts and pseudocode. Program specifications validation through desk-checking and walk-throughs is also covered.

NETW 202 - Introduction to Networking with Lab - 3 Credit Hours
This course introduces the underlying technology of local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and the Internet. Topics include networking media, the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model, transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP), an overview of routing and switching, and small network configuration and troubleshooting. Students prepare and test cabling and become familiar with protocol analyzers.

COLL 148 - Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving - 3 Credit Hours
This course provides instruction and practice in critical thinking, problem-solving and use of research as a problem-solving tool. Course objectives are addressed through problem-solving methodologies, critical analysis of information, cooperative learning and research strategies. The course also assists students in identifying and articulating skills needed for academic and professional success. Ethical and values considerations are included within the critical thinking and problem framework.

COMP 100 - Computer Applications for Business with Lab - 3 Credit Hours
This course introduces basic concepts and principles underlying personal productivity tools widely used in business such as work processors, spreadsheets, email and web browsers. Students also learn basic computer terminology and concepts. Hands-on experiences provide students with experience in use of PCs and current personal productivity tools.

COM 129 - PC Hardware and Software with Lab - 3 Credit Hours
This course explores the PC system from software, hardware and operating system points of view. Hardware topics include system boards, processors, memory, power supplies, input/output (I/O) ports, internal adapters, printers and basic networking devices. Software topics include client/server operating systems and installation, as well as licensing software applications.

PSYC 110 - Psychology - 3 Credit Hours
This course provides a foundation for understanding, predicting and directing behavior. Organized within a framework encompassing foundations, general topics and applications, the course provides an understanding of how psychological principals and concepts relate to professional and personal life. Topics include learning, attitude formation, personality, social influence, dynamics of communication, conflict resolution, motivation, leadership, and group roles and processes.

SOSC 185 - Culture and Society - 3 Credit Hours
This course explores the role of culture in social organizations. Social institutions, and the issues of race and gender within social structures, are analyzed in the context of multicultural societies and increasing global interaction. Basic sociological principals and research findings are used to support analysis of cultural and social issues.

Program Information

  • Students are responsible for the cost of textbooks and materials.

  • Students have the opportunity to experience a real campus environment, including our labs, library, and tutoring services.

  • DeVry Passport2College applicants must register and attend an orientation on the DeVry campus. Enrollment is based on completed registration, not just an application.

  • Students must have a verified cumulative grade point of at least 2.5. A letter of recommendation from a high school counselor or teacher is required.

  • Two years of high school algebra is highly recommended but not necessary before entering the program.
